March winds bring two new wide releases that will be no match for Black Panther [BPNTH]. The superhero is poised to have the second highest grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in just its third weekend with another $65 million.
Red Sparrow [RSPRW] stars Jennifer Lawrence [JLAWR] as a Russian honeypot spy. Rather than appealing to her female fanbase, Fox is targeting the R-rated thriller at men with a marketing campaign publicizing her nudity in the film. Landing in 3056 theaters, Red Sparrow could capture $21 million.
Bruce Willis [BWILL] stars in MGM’s remake of Death Wish [DWISH]. The R-rated revenge actioner arrives while the nation is in the midst of a gun debate after the Parkland massacre. The NRA crowd will embrace the vigilante justice, while turning off gun control advocates. Showing in 2847 theaters, Death Wish may hit $17 million.
The comedy Game Night [GAMEN] could hold 55% of its opening for a sophomore session around $9.5 million. On the other hand, the sci-fi Annihilation is likely to tumble 55% in its second weekend to $5 million.
That’s the whisper on the virtual trading floor.
