For the first time since Avatar did it in 2009, Black Panther [BPNTH.BW] topped the box office for a fifth straight weekend with an estimated $27.0 million. The Marvel superhero has amassed $605.4 million.
Tomb Raider [TOMB3] debuted in second place with $23.5 million. The videogame adaptation drew an audience that was 56% male and 68% over the age of 25.
I Can Only Imagine [ICOIM] surprised the industry with $17.1 million to open in third place. The faith-based drama connected with a crowd that was 67% female and 80% over the age of 35.
A Wrinkle in Time [AWITM] dropped 50% to $16.6 million and the fourth spot in its second weekend. The fantasy has taken in $61.1 million.
Love, Simon [SVHSA] opened fifth overall with $11.5 million. The audience for the teen comedy was 58% female and 59% under the age of 25.
Strangers: Prey at Night [STRN2] fell 54% in its second frame to $4.8 million, bringing its total to $18.6 million.
7 Days in Entebbe [ENTEB] debuted outside the top 12 with $1.6 million.
