Three newcomers look to light up on 420 weekend, but A Quiet Place [AQPLC] is likely to bounce back to the top spot after spending its second weekend in second place. The buzzy horror film should hold about 60% to settle at $20 million.
After its number one debut, the sci-fi actioner Rampage [RAMPG] is likely to drop 50% in its second play-through to $18 million.
I Feel Pretty [IFPRT] stars Amy Schumer [ASCHU] as an ordinary woman who suddenly believes she’s supermodel material. The PG-13 rated comedy has received some backlash and poor reviews. The STX release is tracking behind her last film Snatched, which opened to $19.5 million last May. I Feel Pretty may secure $13.5 million from 3440 theaters.
Made with the help of crowdfunding, Super Troopers 2 [STRO2] finally arrives 16 years after the first Super Troopers opened to $6.2 million in 2002. The R-rated comedy should do well on Friday as Fox Searchlight scheduled the opening on 4-20, aka weed day. Rolling into in 2038 theaters, Super Troopers 2 could smoke $11 million.
Like most teen-targeted horror films, Truth or Dare [TRUOD] should lose more than 55% of its debut for a second weekend around $8 million.
Paula Patton [PPATT] toplines the R-rated thriller Traffik [TRAFK] targeted at African-Americans. Unfortunately, Summit is releasing the film in just 1046 theaters. Traffik may not cross $6 million.
That’s the whisper on the virtual trading floor.
