The weekend was dominated by a knife-wielding psycho who scared up audiences to the tune of $32.2 million. A Nightmare on Elm Street [NELMS] featured Jackie Earl Haley [JEHAL] as Freddy Krueger in the New Line Cinemas/Warner Bros. remake. The film didn’t quite bring home the same figures as New Line’s successful 2009 remake of Friday the 13th.
How to Train Your Dragon continues to make DreamWorks proud with another $10.8 million at second place. Now in its sixth week of release, Dragon has made a total of $192.4 million. With its 3D visuals, the film could continue to be a favorite.
Tina Fey [TFEY] and Steve Carell [SCARE] continue to rekindle their romance on a Date Night [DATEN]. The film landed in third place with another $7.6 million to make a total take of $73.6 million.
Even though the film dropped to fourth place this weekend, Jennifer Lopez [JLOPE] continues to work The Back-Up Plan [PLANB]. It took in $7.2 million making the total for the CBS Films romantic comedy $23 million.
Families got a chance to laugh with the comedy Furry Vengeance [FURYV]. The Brendan Fraser [BFRAS] picture debuted with $6.5 million from 2997 theaters.
