Debuting with an estimated $61.5 million at the weekend box office, Mission: Impossible - Fallout [MISS6] scored the biggest franchise opening, surpassing Mission: Impossible II's $57.4 million in 2000. The audience was 55% male compared to 62% for the previous installment, Rogue Nation.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again [MAMI2] remained in second place with $15.0 million. The musical sequel declined 57% in its sophomore session to bring its total to $70.4 million.
Last weekend's champ, The Equalizer 2 [EQLZ2] dropped 61% to $14 million and the third spot. The action sequel has banked $64.2 million.
Hotel Transylvania: Summer Vacation [HTRN3] finished fourth at $12.3 million for a total of $119.2 million.
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies [TNTNG] admitted just $10.5 million to debut fifth overall. The cartoon proved to be frontloaded by its fans.
