Male testosterone proved no match for feminine manners as Downton Abbey [DWTAB] topped the weekend box office with an estimated $31.0 million, which included $2.2 million from sneak previews last Thursday. The opening is the biggest ever for Focus Features. The TV continuation played to a crowd that was 74% female and 60% were 35 or older.
Ad Astra [ASTRA] charted at second spot with $19.2 million. The sci-fi film drew an audience that was 54% male and 73% aged 25 or older.
Rambo: Last Blood [RAMB5] debuted in third place with $19.0 million. The action sequel skewed 66% males and 77% 25 and older.
It: Chapter Two [IT2] finished fourth at $17.2 million, bringing its total to $179.2 million.
Last week's top earner Hustlers [HSTLR] dropped to fifth and $17.0 million. The drama lost 49% in its second weekend to take its total to $62.6 million.
