Even after a 11-year break from their last film, moviegoers still have a fondness for Woody and Buzz as Toy Story 3 [TOYS3] rounded up an estimated $109.0 million. The debut tops The Incredibles' $70.5 million as Pixar's best opening and is the second highest for animated film behind only Shrek the Third's $121.6 million. The 3D version of the film accounted for 60% of the box office gross. With near universal praise, Toy Story 3 should have legs to surpass Finding Nemo's $339.7 million to become Pixar's biggest earner.
Last weekend's champ, The Karate Kid [KFKID] was knocked down to $29.0 million for second place. Stiff competition for the family audience dropped the Sony remake 48% from its stellar debut.
The other '80s remake The A-Team [ATEAM] took the third spot with $13.8 million, a decline of 46% from last weekend. Get Him to the Greek [GHGRK] drew another $6.1 million in its third weekend to bring its total to $47.9 million.
The weekend's other wide newcomer Jonah Hex [JOHEX] flopped badly, grossing just $5.1 million to chart at the eight spot. The Warner Bros. western had a troubled production and a late marketing campaign.
