Two new wide release arrive this weekend targeting at different sexes. Neither will prove competition for Bad Boys for Life [BADB3]. Even if the action comedy sequel declines 55% in its second weekend, Bad Boys For Life will still cash in another $28 million.
The Oscar frontrunner 1917 [1917] looks to maintain its strong hold with around $13 million in its third weekend of wide release.
With poor word of mouth, the family film Dolittle [DOCDO] is likely to drop 50% from its holiday opening weekend to about $11 million.
Director Guy Ritchie returns to his crime comedy roots with The Gentlemen [TOFFG]. The R-rated gangster film has garnered positive reviews, which should help bring out the males over 25. However, STX is opening the film in just 2165 theaters. The Gentlemen may earn $10.5 million.
Universal targets female horror fans with the PG-13 rated The Turning [HAUND]. Mackenzie Davis stars in the latest adaptation of the classic story ‘Turn of the Screw’. Unfortunately, reviews are poor. Haunting 2571 theaters, The Turning could gross $10 million.
After decades in development, The Last Full Measure [LFMSR] has finally been realized on screen. Sebastian Stan leads a cast that should appeal to senior men who remember the Vietnam War. Roadside Attractions drops the R-rated drama in 613 theaters. The Last Full Measure could net $2.5 million.
That’s the whisper on the virtual trading floor.
