Universal mines its horror vault once again to remake another of its classic movie monster. But instead of spending $100 million like the failed relaunch of Dracula Untold and The Mummy, the studio turned to Blumhouse to produce The Invisible Man [INVSB] for less than $10 million. Elisabeth Moss stars in the R-rated film which is told from the perspective of the female victim, rather than the male title character. The Invisible Man has earned rave reviews with a better than 90% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes. Horror fans are ready to spend money on a good movie after six other horror offerings were poorly received the last two months. Stalking 3610 theaters, The Invisible Man could nab $30 million.
Second place looks to be photo finish between Sonic the Hedgehog [SONIC] and The Call of the Wild [TCOTW]. The videogame adaptation is likely to settle with $13 million in its third outing, while the book adaptation should be able to hold better than 50% in its second weekend and also deliver $13 million.
Birds of Prey [GOTCS] is expected to tally $3.5 million during its fourth weekend and cross $80 million.
The horror sequel Brahms: The Boy 2 [TBOY2] looks to lose more than 55% of its opening weekend to about $2.5 million.
That’s the whisper on the virtual trading floor.
