After setting a couple of box office record on opening day Wednesday, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse [TWLI3] an estimated $82.5 million the long Independence Day weekend. Fangirls have driven up the total to $175.29 million over its first 6 days.
The Last Airbender [BENDR] blew away expectations with an estimated $53.15 million over the 4-day weekend. Family audiences flocked to the fantasy film based on a cartoon series despite poor reviews.
Toy Story 3 [TOYS3] packed in another $42.2 million over the holiday weekend to cross the $300 million milestone in its third weekend.
With Fourth of July falling on Sunday, sophomore holdovers suffered greater declines with Grown Ups [GRWUP] down 53% and Knight and Day [KNDAY] down 48% when comparing the Friday-to-Sunday portion of the weekend.
