The audience demographics was 52% female and 56% over the age of 25. Moviegoers gave the sequel a Cinemascore of B+, which is below the A of the 2017 original. Word of mouth on social media are more evenly mixed.
News of the World [NEWSW] opened in second place with $2.4 million.
The Croods: A New Age gathered another $1.7 million, bringing its total to $30.3 million.
Monster Hunter [MONHT] finished fourth with $1.1 million, down 49% from opening weekend. The videogame adaptation has cleared $4.2 million.
Promising Young Woman [PRMYM] registered just $680K in its debut in 1310 theaters.
Fatale [FATLE] held 72% of its opening for a second weekend at $660K. The erotic thriller has earned nearly $2.0 million.
Pinocchio [PNCCO] debuted with $275K from 764 locations.
