The COVID-19 pandemic has stopped many stars from appearing on the big screen, but not Liam Neeson [LNEES]. Hitting theaters for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, The Marksman [TMINM] is Neeson's second wide release in 4 months following Honest Thief, which debuted in October at $3.7 million. Both actioners are rated PG-13 and distributed by Open Road. However, while Honest Thief was booked 2425 theaters, The Marksman will reach only 1975 theaters. Reviews are just as poor, but are unlikely to matter to the target audience. The Marksman looks to knock down around $3.5 million over the 4-day weekend.
Fading fast due to poor word of mouth, Wonder Woman 1984 [WOND2] may earn $2.0 million over the long weekend. Fellow Christmas Day opener News of the World [NEWSW] could gross $1.0 million over the same period.
That’s the whisper from the virtual trading floor.
