The box office is slowly waking up from its year-long COVID-induced slumber as more than 50% of movie theaters have reopened. Raya and the Last Dragon [RAYAD] led daylight savings weekend with an estimated $5.5 million. The Disney animated film held 65% of its opening to advance its total to $15.8 million.
Tom & Jerry [TMJRY] stayed in second place with $4.1 million, bringing its total to $28.2 million after 3 weekends.
Chaos Walking [CHAOW] held the third spot at $2.25 million, down 40% from its debut. The dystopian sci-fi film has banked $6.9 million.
Boogie [BOOGE] slipped 39% in its second weekend to $730K. The total stands at $2.2 million.
Sony Pictures Classics isn't reporting box office for The Father [TFTHR], which expanded wide to 865 theaters this weekend. Unofficial estimates are in the $300K range.
Long Weekend [LNWKN] opened with $245K from 814 theaters. The romance skewed 58% female and 81% over 25.
