The nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards have finally been announced, two months later than usual due to the COVID pandemic. Netflix’s Mank led the field with 10 Oscar nominations, followed by Nomadland and The Father with 6 each. Eight films qualified for this year's Best Picture category. Due to theater closures, half of the Best Picture contenders have not reported box office while the highest earner Promising Young Woman has grossed just $5.5 million.
For the first time ever, two women will compete in the Best Director category. A record nine actors of color were nominated this year, coming one year after Cynthia Erivo was the lone minority representative.
This year’s Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 25th. HSX is offering AwardOptions for the Oscar nominees in the top eight categories.
