Even though only roughly 50% of theaters are open in the country, an unexpectedly close weekend box office battle brought optimism to Hollywood. Holding off its rival challenger, Mortal Kombat [MK3] took the top spot with an estimated $22.5 million. The bloody actioner skewed males at 69%.
Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train [DSMMT] debuted above all expectations with $19.5 million in second place. The anime film drew a diverse crowd that was 35% Hispanic, 27% Caucasian, 21% Asian and 17% Black.
Godzilla vs. Kong [GOVKO] finished third with $4.2 million and a total of $86.6 million through its fourth weekend.
The Unholy [SHRNE] settled at $1.4 million for its fourth weekend, bringing its total to $11.5 million.
Opening in 665 theaters, Together Together [TOGTH] brought in just $552K.
