Setting a new opening weekend mark for the pandemic era, Black Widow [BWDOW] caught an estimated $80 million to lead the weekend box office. However, nearly half that amount, $39.5 million, was booked on Friday, since the Marvel film was also available on streaming. Black Widow earned $60 million on Disney+, the first time ever the studio has announced its revenue from premium VOD. The film received an A- CinemaScore from theater goers, which was 58% male, and 52% under the age of 25.
F9: The Fast Saga [FAST9] crossed the finish line in second place with $10.8 million, pushing its total to $141.3 million.
The Boss Baby: Family Business [BOSS2] declined 46% in its sophomore session to $8.7 million. The animated sequel has earned $34.7 million.
The Forever Purge [PURG5] decayed 47% from its debut to $6.7 million. The dystopian sequel has grossed $27.4 million.
Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard [HTMB2] banked another $1.6 million to bring its total to $35.0 million after 4 weekends.
