New competition proved no match for the Master of Kung Fu as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings [SHCHI] topped the box office for a third weekend with an estimated $21.7 million. The action fantasy has banked $176.9 million and should surpass Black Widow as 2021's top earner this week.
Second place belonged to a film in its sixth week of release as Free Guy [FREEG.BW] added $5.2 million to bring its total of $108.6 million.
Cry Macho [CRYMC] debuted at the third spot with $4.5 million. The Clint Eastwood vehicle appealed to an older audience, which gave the film only a B CinemaScore.
Candyman [CNDYM] stayed in fourth place with $3.5 million for a total of $53.2 million after 4 weekends.
Malignant [SLVCP] declined 51% in its second weekend to $2.7 million, bringing its sum to $9.8 million.
CopShop [COPSH] opened sixth overall with just $2.3 million.
Two films debuted in moderate release. The Eyes of Tammy Faye [TEOTF] brought in $675K from 450 theaters, while Blue Bayou [BLUBU] collected $315K from 477 theaters.
