With the competition steering away from its second weekend, Eternals [ETRNL] will easily retain the box office crown even with a steep sophomore drop. Venom: Let There Be Carnage declined 65% last month. Eternals could lose 64% to finish at $26 million.
The live-action/animated hybrid film Clifford the Big Red Dog [CTBRD] is the weekend’s only new wide release. Paramount opened the PG-rated family film on Wednesday, where it grossed $2.3 million, to take advantage of the Veteran’s Day school holiday on Thursday. Clifford is also available on streaming via Paramount+. PAW Patrol: The Movie opened day-n-date in August and debuted with $13.5 million. Playing in 3695 theaters, Clifford the Big Red Dog could fetch $11 million over the weekend.
Heading into its fourth weekend, Dune [DUNE] looks to uncover another $5 million for third place.
Focus debuts the black-n-white Irish drama Belfast [BELFS] in 588 theaters. Arthouse films have struggled at the box office, as the target audience has been slow to return. Despite strong buzz as a leading Oscar contender, Belfast may settle with $1.2 million.
That’s the whisper from the virtual trading floor.
