Two films open in wide release this weekend, but neither is expected to create a ripple at the box office. Scream [SCRM5] hopes to retain the top spot, but the horror sequel will likely drop more than 55% in its second weekend to $13 million.
Spider-Man: No Way Home [SPID8.BW] remains a juggernaut heading into its sixth week and should Scream falter, could retake first place at around $12.5 million.
Sing 2 [SING2.OW] looks to take third on the podium with $4.5 million in its fifth weekend.
Universal distributes the period romance Redeeming Love [RDMLV], but doesn’t appear to be responsible for the marketing as the PG-13 rated film is not on its website. Based on a Biblical tale, the film is targeted at Christian moviegoers. Showing in 1903 theaters, Redeeming Love could settle for $2.5 million.
The King’s Daughter [MNSUN] finally arrives in theaters after being shelved for 7 years. Based on the novel "The Moon and the Sun", the PG-rated fantasy has had a troubled post-production. Gravitas Ventures stepped up with its widest release ever at 2170 theaters, but there’s little buzz or awareness in the marketplace. The King’s Daughter may bring in $1.5 million.
That's the whisper from the virtual trading floor.
