Hollywood's assorted variety of five new releases were no match for the assembled action stars of The Expendables [XPNDB] as the Lionsgate film remained atop the weekend box office despite decaying 53% to an estimated $16.5 millionThe action adventure has already earned an impressive $64.9 million after just two weekends.
Vampires Suck [VAMPM] faired the best out of the newcomers, draining $12.2 million over the weekend after already collecting $6.4 million on Wednesday and Thursday. The spoof comedy is unlikely to have long legs.
Eat Pray Love [ETPLV] tailed off 48% in its second weekend to finish third at $12.0 million. The spiritual romance now stands at $47.1 million.
Lottery Ticket [LOTKT] claimed $11.1 million to open in fourth place, while Piranha 3D [PIRAN] chew off $10.0 million to debut in sixth place.
In a battle for the seventh spot, Nanny McPhee Returns [MCPH2] grossed $8.3 million to edge out The Switch [SWITC], which banked only $8.1 million.
