While temperature soared across the country, the weekend box office was a dead heat between newcomer Elvis [ELVIS] and stalwart Top Gun: Maverick [TOPG2.BW] as both reported an estimated $30.5 million. The musical biopic appears to be frontloaded after grossing $12.7 million on Friday including previews. Elvis skewed female at 58% with 30% over the age of 55. Top Gun: Maverick brought its massive haul to $521.7 million.
After two weeks at the top, Jurassic World: Dominion [JURA6] dropped to third place at $26.44 million. The sequel has amassed $302.77 million after 3 weekends.
The Black Phone [BPHON] dialed up $23.37 million to debut at the fourth spot. The 51% female and 53% under 25 horror moviegoersgave the film a B+ CinemaScore.
Lightyear [LITYR] tumbled 65% in its second weekend to $17.7 million for a running total of $88.8 million.
