Blowing away all expectations to set a new record at the July 4th holiday weekend box office, Minions: The Rise of Gru [MNIO2] an estimated $108.51 million from Friday to Sunday and a total of $127.9 million through Monday. 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon held the previous 4-day mark at $115.9 million. The first Minions debuted in 2015 at $115.7 million. The animated sequel drew an audience that was 51% females and 75% under 25.
Top Gun: Maverick [TOPG2.BW] shot down another $25.5 million over 3-day and $32.5 million over 4-day to up its total to $570.98 million.
Elvis [ELVIS] finished third with $19.0 million over 3-day, down 39% from its opening. The total through Sunday is $67.32 million.
Jurassic World: Dominion [JURA6] brought in $ 15.65 million over 3-day and $19.18 million over 4-day. The total stands at $335.35 million after 4 weekends.
The Black Phone [BPHON] collected another $12.3 million over 3-day and $14.6 million over 4-day, advancing its total to $49.76 million after 11 days.
Lightyear [LITYR] captured another $6.57 million over 3-day and $8.12 million over 4-day, bringing its total to $106.9 million after 3 weekends.
Opening in 1384 theaters, Mr. Malcolm’s List [MLCLS] tallied just $825K over the 3-day weekend and $1.03 million through Monday.
