After weeks of sequels and adaptation, Jordan Peele and his sci-fi flick Nope [NOPE] topped the weekend box office with an estimated $44.0 million, the biggest opening for an original screenplay since his Us’s $71 million debut. The 58% male audience graded Nope with a B CinemaScore, the same as Us.
After two weeks at the top, Thor: Love and Thunder [THOR4] finished second with $22.1 million, bringing its total to $276.2 million.
Minions: The Rise of Gru [MNIO2] placed third at $17.7 million, advancing its total to $297.9 million after 4 weekends.
Where the Crawdads Sing [WTCDS] declined 40% in its second weekend to $10.33 million for current sum of $38.33 million.
Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank [BLAZS] grossed $3.88 million, down 39% from its debut. The animated film stands at $13.76 million.
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris [MHGTP] slipped just 31% from its opening to $1.35 million, bringing its cumulative total to $4.65 million.
