Even though parts of country were hit by winter storms over the Christmas holiday weekend, Avatar: The Way of the Water [AVAT2] declined just 52% from its opening to lead the 3-day box office with an estimated $64.0 million. Disney is forecasting $95.5 million for the 4-day weekend for a running total of $293.2 million.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish [PUSS2] debuted in second place with $12.44 million over 3-day, $20.0 million over 4-day for a total of $26.10 million since Wednesday.
Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody [IWDWS] charted at the third spot with $4.77 million over 3-day and $6.75 million over the 4-day weekend.
Babylon [BBYLN] opened fourth overall with just $3.5 million over 3-day and $4.85 million over the 4-day holiday weekend.
Violent Night [VILNT] brought in another $3.53 million over 3-day and $4.7 million over 4-day for a 4-weekend total at $43.35 million.
Expanding to 603 theaters, The Whale [TWHLE] earned $1.01 million over 3-day and $1.55 million over 4-day for a cumulative total of $3.12 million through Monday.
