The Facebook movie added millions of moviegoers as Sony's The Social Network [SOCIL] earned an estimated $23.0 million in its opening weekend. With excellent reviews and award buzz to attract older adults, The Social Network should continue to be liked by audiences through the award season.
Legend of the Guardian: The Owls of Ga'Hoole [GHOOL] remained in second place for a second weekend with $10.6 milllion. Tha animated family film declined just 33% from its debut.
Last weekend's top film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps [WALS2] fell to third with $10.1 million. The financial drama dropped 47% in its second weekend.
Two new horror films failed to make a dent at the box office. Case 39 [CAS39] tallied an estimated $5.35 million to edge out Let Me In [LTRON] at $5.3 million for seventh place. The Renee Zellweger [RZELL] starrer had been delayed for years, while the vampire remake lacked starpower to breakout from the arthouse crowd.
