Powering up a new five-day box office record with an estimated $204.63 million, The Super Mario Bros. Movie [MARIO] karted off first place with $146.36 million over the 3-day weekend. The debut is also the biggest ever for Illumination, and the second best ever for an animated film behind only Incredibles 2. The videogame adaptation drew an audience that was 60% males, 60% between the age of 18-34, and 41% Latinos.
John Wick: Chapter 4 [WICK4] remained in second place with $14.6 million, advancing its total to $147.07 million after 3 weekends.
Last weekend’s champ Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves [DNDGN] dropped 61% in its second weekend to $14.5 million and a cumulative total of $62.28 million.
AIR [AIRJO] opened in fourth place with $14.47 million and $20.2 million since opening on Wednesday. The Amazon film was previously set to debut on Prime Video.
Scream VI [SCRM6.OW] grossed another $3.315 million, bringing its sum to $103.85 million after 5 weekends.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods [SHAZ2] took in $1.6 million in its fourth weekend for a total at $56.60 million.
Paint [PAINT] debuted with just $750K from 819 theaters.
A Thousand and One [ATHON] declined 67% in its sophomore session to $600K. The drama sits at $2.96 million.
