Showing fans still love their outrageous stunts more than ever, Jackass 3D [JCKA3] grossed an estimated $50.0 million to break the box office record for biggest opening weekend in October. The previous mark of $48.1 million was held by 2003's Scary Movie 3. Even with inflation and the 3D surcharge, Jackass 3D sold more tickets than Jackass 2. Johnny Knoxille and his pranksters are likely to cross the $100 million mark overall.
The elders of Red [RED1] didn't perform so bad themselves, banking $22.5 million for the second spot. Drawing predominantly older moviegoers, the action comedy should have good legs.
After two weeks at the top, The Social Network [SOCIL] settled for third with another $11.0 million.
In its second race weekend, Secretariat [SCTRT] let up just 25% to finish fourth at $9.5 million. Meanwhile, Life As We Know It [LAWKI] dropped off 37% to $9.2 million in its second weekend.
