Business was slow at the box office this holiday season as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom [AQUM2] opened with an estimated $28.1 million weekend and $40.0 million through Christmas Monday. Aquaman opened with $72.57 million in 2018. Audience for the sequel was 63% males and more than 50% between the ages of 18 and 24.
Last weekend’s top film Wonka [WONKA] dropped 55% in its sophomore frame to $17.7 million. The total through Sunday is $75.2 million.
Migration [MIGRT] debuted in third place with $12.3 million over the weekend, and $17.06 million over 4 days. The animated film received an A CinemaScore which should lead to long legs.
Anyone But You [ANOBU] opened fourth overall with $6.24 million, and $8.90 million through Monday. The romantic comedy brought out a crowd that was 67% female and 69% between 18-34 years old.
Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire [SALAR] broke into the top five with $5.48 million. The 4-day estimate for the Tollywood actioner is $6.31 million.
The Iron Claw [IRONC] opened with $5.06 million over the weekend and $7.53 million through Monday. The wrestling drama drew 66% male and 60% between 18-34.
The Boy and the Heron [HDYL] earned another $3.15 million in its third outing to bring its total to $30.58 million.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes [HGAM5.BW] took in $3.15 million for a total of $152.46 million after 6 weeks.
Godzilla Minus One [GODM1] nabbed another $2.74 million, bringing its total to $40.36 million after 4 weekends.
Dunki [DUNKI] debuted with $2.60 million over the weekend for a sum of $4.6 million since opening on Thursday.
Expanding wide to 800 theaters, Poor Things [PRTHN] grossed $2.11 million. The 4-day estimate of $3.01 million brings its total to $5.95 million.
