The Memorial Day holiday weekend box office was a wasteland this year with the lowest openings and totals in three decades. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga [MMAX5] leads the 3-day weekend with an estimated $25.55 million, over $24.78 million from The Garfield Movie [GRFLD], which is likely to win the 4-day weekend with an estimated $31.88 million. Both films scored a B+ on CinemaScore.
Last weekend’s top film IF [IMGNF] lost 52% of its debut to $16.10 million. The 4-day estimated of $21.0 million takes the total to $63.57 million.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes [APES4] finished fourth with $13.36 million 3-day and $17.1 million 4-day, pushing its total to $126.55 million through Monday.
The Fall Guy [FALGY] grossed $5.92 million 3-day and $7.60 million 4-day in its fourth frame to bring its total to $73.89 million through Monday.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 [STRN3] declined 53% from its opening to $5.61 million. The 4-day sum of $7.00 million takes the total to $22.73 million.
Opening in 2100 theaters, Sight [SIGHT] earned $2.70 million through Sunday.
Back to Black [BTBLK] dropped 63% in its second weekend to $1.05 million. $1.30 million over 4-day brings the total to $5.20 million.
