DreamWorks Animation's 3D animated supervillain took over the weekend box office as Megamind [MEGAM] scored an estimated $47.7 million opening. The debut was better than their last film How To Train Your Dragon's $43.7 million, but not as good as Universal's 3D animated supervillain film Despicable Me's $56.4 million. As with most family-friendly films, Megamind should enjoy a long run this holiday season.
Due Date [DUDAT] arrived in second at $33.5 million. The road trip comedy starring Robert Downey Jr. [RDOWN] and Zach Galifianakis [ZGALI] set a new high for a R-rated opening in November.
For Colored Girls [FCGRL] earned $20.1 million to debut in third place. Director Tyler Perry [TPERR] delivered once again, this time on a dramatic adaptation with award aspiration.
In fourth place in its fourth weekend, Red [RED1] banked another $8.9 million to raise its total to $71.9 million.
Last weekend's top film Saw 3D [SAW7] slippd to fifth overall with $8.2 million. The horror finale tumbled 66% in its second weekend.
