DreamWorks Animation's family comedy about a supervillain Megamind [MEGAM] took over $30 million to stay atop the weekend box office. The 3D animated film trailed off just 35% from its debut to bring its cumulative total to $89.8 million.
Opening in second place, Unstoppable [USTOP] earned an estimated $23.5 million. The action thriller about a runaway train attracted an audience that was evenly split between males and females. With good reviews and word of mouth, Unstoppable should have a long haul ahead.
Due Date [DUDAT] fell 52% in its second weekend to $15.5 million. The R-rated comedy has banked $59.0 million.
Skyline [SKYLN] sucked up $11.7 million to open in fourth place. The sci-fi film looks to disappear quickly due to terrible word of mouth.
In fifth place, the romantic comedy Morning Glory [MORNG] bombed with just $9.6 million during the weekend. The trio of stars failed to attracted much of an audience, though the female-targeted film should hold up during subsequent weekends.
