Since the weekend after Thanksgiving is traditional one of the weakest for new wide openers, studios have stayed away except for one this year, Relativity with The Warrior’s Way [WRWAY]. Korean superstar Jang Dong-gun plays an ninja assassin fighting his ex-clan in the Old West. The last Ninja Assassin starring a Korean superstar opened to $13.3 million last Thanksgiving for Warner Bros. Relativity’s lower budgeted R-rated actioner may fight just to get into the top five. Opening in 1622 theaters, The Warrior’s Way could wind up with around $5 million.
After Tangled [RAPUN] came within $0.25 million of first place last weekend, Disney’s animated film should easily finish first in its second session. A drop nearly 50% from its holiday-fueled opening would still result in $25 million.
After two weeks at the top, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 [HPOT7] looks to drop to second with around $17 million. Megamind should finish third with another $6 million.
Between the two sophomore films targeted at women, Burlesque [BURSL] appears to suffer a greater decline than Love and Other Drugs [LVDRG] as they both should come in around $5 million.
That’s the whisper from the trading floor.
