With the nation watching the Super Bowl on Sunday, The Roommate [RMATE] led the weekend box office with an estimated $15.6 million. The PG-13 rated thriller attracted primarily to young women, as females under the age of 21 made up 66% of the audience.
Sanctum [JCSNC] opened in second place with $9.2 million. While 84% of its ticket sale came from 3D, the cave diving thriller received poor marks its audience.
No Strings Attached [NSATA] finished third in its third weekend, grossing $8.4 million to advance its total to $51.8 million.
Last weekend's top film, The Rite [TRITE] tumbled 62% to sixth place at $5.6 million, while fellow sophomore release The Mchanic [MCHNC] dropped 53% to $5.4 million.
