Bieber Fever proved infectious as girls drove Justin Bieber: Never Say Never [JBI3D] within a million of Just Go With It [JGWIT]. The Adam Sandler [ASAND] comedy grossed an estimated $31.0 million, while the Bieber concert movie earned an estimated $30.3 million. Women surprisingly made up 60% of Just Go With It as Sandler broadened his appeal beyond his male-targeted comedic roots. The romantic comedy should get a boost from Valentine's Day on Monday and maintain its box office legs . On the otherhand, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is likely to have been frontloaded by the teen idol's rabid fanbase, 84% of which was female during opening weekend.
Gnomeo and Juliet [GNOME] opened in third place with a strong $25.5 million. The Disney brand and marketing machine brought out the family audience in a marketplace without much competition for animated fares.
The historical action adventure The Eagle [EAGLN] raked in $8.6 million to debut at the fourth spot.
Last weekend leader The Roommate [RMATE] dropped 44% to $8.4 million for fifth overall.
