Four new releases try to ignite the box office with only moderate success. Although Paramount's Rango [RANGO] lead the weekend with an estimated $38.0 million, it did not break the $40 million mark the industry expected for the CG animated film produced at $135 million. Word of mouth is mixed on the non-3D animated western, which may not have the legs of typical family films.
The Adjustment Bureau [ADJBU] debuted in second place with $20.9 million. The Matt Damon [MDAMO] thriller attracted an audience that was 73% over the age of 30, an audience which should sustain the film in the long run.
Beastly [BSTLY] finished third with a $10.1 million opening. The targeted females made up 73% of the audience.
Last weekend's champ Hall Pass [HLPAS] cleared $9 million for fourth overall, holding an impressive 67% of its opening weekend.
Take Me Home Tonight [TMHTN] bombed completely with just $3.5 million.
