Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen [TFRM2] totaled a huge $109.0 million during the weekend, on top of the $91.1 million already banked on Wednesday and Thursday. The five day sum of $200 million fell just short of the record $203.8 million set by The Dark Knight’s first five days. After seeing the toys realized on screen as giant robots in the first film, moviegoers came back for more Autobots on Decepticons action as directed by Michael Bay [MBAY]. Despite poor critical reviews, the PG-13 rated sequel scored with a more favorable reception from its broad audience.
Last weekend’s top film The Proposal [PROSL] came in second with $18.6 million, a 45% decline from its first weekend. The Sandra Bullock [SBULL] and Ryan Reynolds [RREYN] coupling has already made $69.2 million.
My Sister’s Keeper [MYSKP] earned $12.44 million to debut in fifth place. Cameron Diaz [CDIAZ] starred in the PG-13 rated drama, which skewed heavily females.
Year One [YEAR1] dropped a whopping 69% in its second weekend. The biblical comedy gathered $6.0 million for sixth overall.
