The destruction of Southern California by an alien invasion proved popular with moviegoers as Battle: Los Angeles [BATLA] scored an estimated $36.0 million to top the weekend box office. The sci-fi action film was well recieved by guys who made up 68% of the audience. However, that demographic usually frontload a film's first weekend.
Rango [RANGO] declined 39% in its second weekend to $23.1 million for second place. The animated film has wrangled $68.7 milllion thus far.
Red Riding Hood [GWRRH] debuted third overall with a softer than expected $14.1 million. The horror romance attracted an audience that was 64% females and 56% under the age of 25.
The Adjustment Bureau [ADJBU] finished fourth with $11.5 million, a drop of 46% from its opening weekend.
The 3D animated Mars Needs Moms [MNMOM] crashed and burned upon take-off, grossing just $6.8 million. Families made up 88% of its audience.
