What was more shocking Thursday night on American Idol? Sixty-something punk rocker Iggy Pop prancing around without a shirt on the Idol stage, or the early surprise elimination of Pia Toscano [AI10PT], one of the favorites to win the whole competition. The sultry, ballad-belting songtress could not muster more votes than her less talented male counterparts who are backed by their young female fans.
Pia is just the latest female casualty following the elimination of Karen Rodriguez [AI10KR] and the double elimination last week of Naima Adedpo [AI10NA] and Thia Megia [AI10TM]. The stunned judges only have themselves to blame. Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson praise every contestant after every performance. Not wanting to hurt their feelings is understandable, but the coodling of less talented singers allowed them to stay on past their expiration date at the expense of those with true superstar potential. Using their Judges' Save on Casey Abrams [AI10CA] now seemed like a wasteful mistake.
No matter, the show must go on. How will the early elimination of Pia affect the remaining eight contestants? Trade the Idol Warrants and predict the next American Idol!
