Universal’s R-rated comedy Bruno [BRUNO] pranced to the top of the weekend box office with an estimated $30.4 million. The opening topped Sacha Baron Cohen [SBCOH]’s previous mockumentary Borat’s $26.5 million. However, Bruno was extremely front-loaded, opening to $14.5 million on Friday before dropping 39% to $8.8 million on Saturday. The gay Austrian does not seem to have the word of mouth staying power of the Kazakh reporter.
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs [ICEA3] grossed $28.5 million to hold the second spot. The animated sequel melted just 32% from its opening weekend.
After two weeks at the top, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen [TFRM2] finished third, adding $24.2 million to up its tank to $339 million.
Public Enemies [PUBNM] caem in fourth with $14.1 million. The gangster drama trailed off 44% in its sophomore frame.
Fox’s teen comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper [ILUBC] debuted seventh overall at an estimated $5 million.
