But for the smalller port, you have limited cash and some of it is tied up in your short position. If you feel you can do better by reinvesting, reshort.
BONDS is a "Smaller port" starting at 20M and ending at 100M. From time to time, where there is a big percentage profit and if I am up over 100K I will reshort., it means that I have more cash to invest. Maybe I will not reshort a couple of days before adjust but I am not afraid to do it.
3 notes. First, if you are up 150K in a short position, and you reshort, you free up 300K in cash (less commission) You always free up (in cash) double the amount of your net gain
Second, the commission rules have changed so that when you cover, you only pay 1 pct of current price (it used to be more based upon price paid)
Third, the ampersand article may refer to commission free trading. This was discontinued over a year ago. It used to be that for 12 hours on the weekend, you could clean up all of the shorts, revers positions, etc and not have to pay the vig. Not any more. On the other hand, if you want the cash, you can reshort on Tuesday or Thursday or whenever, and not feel you have to wait for the weekend.
