Is there a pattern to when trailers are released?....

I'm wondering if it is a set time (range) before the films release, or if it varies in a particular way based on variables like the budget of the film and the width of its release. i know this may get confusing given the trend to release a variety of 'teaser' trailers, but maybe these are also follwiing a pattern or industry standard practice?
