They create as much stock as traders are willing and able to buy. "Infinite" is simplifying - but say a million Hunger Games fans all signed
to HSX tomorrow and they all bought 100,000 shares of HGAM2. HSX would supply the demand and create 100,000,000,000 new shares of HGAM2.
The IPO limits don't limit the number of shares that can be traded on the market - they are really about limiting the number of shares that can be bought at the IPO price. If that limit is exceeded, traders can still buy shares - but the price will start to move in response to market forces.
Is there anyway to see both the bid and ask side for a stock? Can you see trade prints somewhere besides the ticker? {nm} Nov 21, 19:16
