That's quite interesting about the number of players in the Port Value Leagues... Rather respectable total!
The only problem is that the majority (as in the case with almost all other leagues) of the members are inactive. There are only a handful of members that graduate after a few months and there are quite a few dormant ports as can be seen by the various dates they've joined the different leagues.
As you've pointed out in the past, getting some newbie's to join in the smaller port leagues would be advantageous. The thought of flying through those smaller port leagues now, would seem rather fun. Unfortunately I only joined the PVL family at the 195-400m level. I think it's best to try get some others on board, and try "promote" the leagues as such. As most players who join leagues, join more than one, perhaps you can leave a message on the message boards of the different PVL levels and ask the active members to ask others to join? Competitive leagues are far better than having one winner that runs away with the title...
Testimonials could be a good idea. I could help you out with that, but I'm a bit of a nobody. Perhaps a word or two from some of the bigger names would do the trick. Maybe a list of "quotes" from members that make up a diverse range of ports, and their thoughts on a bit of friendly competition amongst ports with similar values.
There are three different avenues / reasons why I continue to enjoy HSX, and they all involve a bit of competition.
Firstly, I believe everyone should join a league that has active members that post on their message boards. My one such league that I've been a part of for a few months now is "The 95% Club." I enjoy the community that has been created whereby there is friendly banter and advise/tips given. I've been able to ask numerous questions to some of the more experienced players, and they're more than willing to help.
Secondly, the Port Value Leagues give a great platform to test yourself against others with similar ports. The most enjoyable month for me was July'14 [195-400m] where i was near graduation and 2 newer up and coming members joined the ranks. Needless to say I came 3rd, but there was some seriously stiff competiton! Unfortunately (for now), we need to organise more active members. As it's going be tough to get the boards very "active" (with member's consistantly graduating and all), these will always be the leagues whereby I can rate myself against others performances. (Aiming to better previous months winners has become a goal of late).
Finally, I really enjoy Kaigee's Weekly Top 100! Striving to make that list every now and then, and be amonst the big boys is rather satisfying :)
I guess I just really enjoy the friendly competitiveness of the game!
