Time to play catch-up with another double-post. So two weeks ago the fund was down 2.4%, mainly due to the poor performance of The Young Messiah, which I had thought would duplicate the performance of Risen, but which did not. It instead performed miserably, and was adjusted from about $22 to $9 over opening weekend.
Bridget Jones' Baby
BJ3 starts off our look at 3 Universal properties this week now that it has a confirmed release date. I can't see this one doing very well at the box office; Zellweger is not the up-and-coming A-list name she once was. The last film she headlined was 2010's Case 39, and that was released only after sitting on a studio shelf for a year or two. The first film cashed out at $44 and the second at $38; I think it's safe to say the third will do significantly less than either. Currently trading at $23, I have to imagine that's the top of the range Bridget Jones's Baby can expect to hit. Not something to invest in in my mind, and how much the film will underperform is a wild card.
Hot Wheels
This one had an IPO waaaaay back in 2003, with script news as recent as 2013 and a listed release date of 2018 as per imdb. Since it's only trading at 40 cents, it's not going to kil anyone to pick it up, and it very well could end up eventually releasing and making a lot of money. But so could that Monopoly board game adaptation. I'd opt for considering this one a dead project unless we actually get some solid new news.
The Social Life aka He's F-ing Perfect
A Rebel Wilson vehicle with Jake Johnson attached that had its IPO in early 2014. Screenwriter Lauryn Kahn has done plenty of shorts, but hasn't had a breakout mainstream feature. And director Jake Syzmanski has Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates coming out this summer. I'd say that's the item to watch. Pick this up for under $1, see how Mike and Dave does. If that movie tanks, dump this stock. But if Mike and Dave does well, this could very well end up fast-tracked as a follow-up project.
And that wraps up Episode 27. Episode 28 should be out within the hour.
