So, I originally joined HSX in 1998, but have been on here everyday since 2007.
Since then, my rank & percentile have only ever improved--with each passing month and year, I am getting closer to that #1 rank and a 100.0% percentile. That;s right--not to brag but while my rank does fluctuate mildy from day to day, my percentile has only ever improved. How does one accomplish this?
First of all, like the Monopoly game, they key to making money is to spend HSX$. I estimate that this year alone I will make at least H$8 million through daily interest and from playing "Earn H$" games. More than H$1 million will come from playing 'Classic Cash' where I have a chance at winning H$50,000 (with 12 months in a year and playing this daily, winning 20 times is not that difficult). Do the math: Playing the other two games earns me H$20,000 daily which of course gives me more money in daily interest...mostly, know to refer to IMDB.com for the answers, but I save new questions & answers in a Notepad file on my laptop while playing these.
Secondly, learn to cut losses right away...after I log-in, I first scroll through my portfolio to see if there are any significant losses since yesterday (for me, significant = H$1,000+ or at least a 5% drop). Some say this is pessimistic--that I should first focus on the biggest gains--but you cannot continue if you are slowly and surely bleeding out! I purchase HSX securities in very certain increments: e.g., Initially, I buy say 1,000 then if it goes up 5% or more I add 4,000 more (making it 5,000) and for each 5% gain I then add 5,000, then double that by adding 10,000 etc. Of course, when I first started I could only afford to buy 100, then add 400 and then double that by buying 500 more etc. for each 5% gain. Therefore, when significant losses occur, I decrease my holdings in that security to the next level (e.g., 20,000 becomes 10,000; and 10,000 becomes 5,000; and 5,000 becomes 1,000 etc.)
Next: DIVERSIFY! When I first joined, most of my money was in StarBonds, leaving me with very little for anything else, such as MovieStocks. Even worse, I was putting my money with actors whose careers seemed to have peaked in the 1980s. For instance, Bill Murray is a great actor that many Americans recognize and love his movies, but don't expect him to be in a blockbuster hit anytime soon. Thus, while the number of different StarBonds I hold is greater than the number of MovieStocks, I have far more H$ in MovieStocks than anything else.Ā
Advice from observations: Action movies--especially those centered around comic book characters--always perform well. The same can be said about Star Wars and Star Trek films--I pour so much H$ in here and just forget about it until just before the release then I cash in multiple what I invested it. Animated films do well too, just not always as much as you might think. Derivates are important, but first see how they are doing before buying them right away (e.g., if the Put option is performing better than the Call, then don't buy it--even if you have stock in it and it's performing well). As far as MovieFunds go, I immediately buy 10,000 every year when they debut but only from the actual major movie studios (e.g., Disney, LionsGate, etc.). These are always by way of percentage my best performing securities.
One last thing: Set goals and keep track! I have multiple files in Notepad on my laptop for playing HSX. I also have maintained at least H$14.6 million in Cash for the past several years, which guarantees me Daily Interest of at least H$100 (0.25% interest), H$200 (0.5% iinterest), H$300 (0.75% interest), or H$400 (1.00% interest like it is now). Best of wishes!
