Playing & Trading Strategy
I set them in the direction they need to go and let the market live its life until adjust. I do review them periodically, and monitor top movers that are in a different direction than my holding. From time to time, I may have missed a news item that impacted the starbond direction...so if a bond is +2.00 and I am short, I need to manually review that bond.
- As you highlighted, KaiGee's Page is an excellent tool that allows for quick review of upcoming adjusts; and while KaiGee does an excellent job keeping up, sometimes you need to do your own math. One can also capture an error that was generated because of an addition to the cast that didn't come with an announcement on HSX. (not terribly common, but does happen)...and also, sometimes, that cast change might be buried in the follow on comments in the thread and one's skimming didn't identify it.
- A good and easy time to recalc is on adjust day. If you miss it, your calculator may be required.
- I'm sure you do, but it's critical to know the rules for what to divide the total box office by for 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 movies in the SBO list.
- Something to consider: When a movie delists but is still in theatres, the final value that will be used to calculate the next TAG will change. (ie) if a movie delists at 100 and eventually ends its run at 120, the next TAG value will incorporate the ultimate movie box office, not the one that was valid on the day of delist. (eg) (100+100+100+next movie) / 4 = next adjust. But if the final box office is different for, say the last one, it becomes (100+100+120+next movie) / 4.
- I have micro strategies too, esp when it comes to no upcoming movies listed, zero box office delists, actors with no credits for a period of time, and quick calculations; but those are trade secrets :)
Good luck.
Can we talk about Star Bond Management?

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, Starbonds are long term investments. I do not day trade them at all.

PS, I recognize you are higher in the LTD board than I, but my response is not exclusively for you :)

Thanks. Good tips - Particularly like your point about movies still in theaters - tricky for back-to-back TAGs

I made a spreadsheet.

I used a spreadsheet when I ran the Oscar Fund. Too much work for me now.

A couple things: I assume you have tons of cash sitting around, why not max every bond?

Not every Starbond is profitable. Many won't adjust by enough to cover the commissions on the trades.

I meant every bond they hold. Obviously, I didn't mean to take a position in every bond. That was one of my main points of my IM.

Yes; i put this on here to hopefully drive some conversation about it. And while I'm way up there rankings wise....

Personally I will hold based on what the math says. I don't try to chase the daily wobbles and herd movements. Saves a lot on commissions.

Personally, I never jump on that train. Set it and forget it.

For me, the trickiest part of managing star bonds are limited release films that they may be attached to

I "play through" the zero reported box office movie.

I'm with you; the overall change in a star's TAG can really throw you for a loop if you miss it. Keep you hopping for sure.

I pretty much wait until a movie opens to take positions in the attached bonds, unless it's something that will obviously....

Today is a great example of the complexities of Star Bond Management! Long term is great if you see it.
