My only thought is that each movie must stand on its own....
I have no idea how IHOP will do, but to compare this movie to Garfield has no bearing - they are totally different movies. Who Framed Roger Rabbit (also live action) opened with only $11M, yet went on to gross well over $100M. Rocky and Bullwinkle on the other hand, tanked at the box office - it was live action. Yogi Bear was live action as well... and it peaked at just under $100M when it finished. There's lots of examples for IHOP not doing well... OR doing well.
My point being that we can cite cases on both sides of the fence... Some movies start out slow...gain legs and do well... others start out big, but tail off over time.
I'm not pushing IHOP, and I'm not sure how I'll hold it when it opens, but to say it will flop, based on another movie's box office is not always a valid point.
For what's it's worth, I think the stock price is probably in the ballpark of where it may open...in the $20-$25M range... but if you feel it will be a big flop you can always short it as well. Personally, I don't think it will adjust UP much more either, but again.. who can really say?
