Promising Press for [ARTGB]

The Art of Getting By [ARTGB] has been getting some favorable press over the last week-plus from MTV, for what it's worth. It was highlighted this week as one of a bunch of new teen-y films that are due out this summer, along with [THELP], [FRNIT], [30MOL], and [HRBOS], ahead of the MTV Movie Awards. With MTV skewing considerably younger over the past decade, this promotion might actually bump [ARTGB] more than the other films it was billed with. At least two ([HRBOS] and [FRNIT]) and potentially a third ([30MOL]) are rated R, limiting MTV's audience at the outset, and [THELP] and [ARTGB] have drastically different tones.
With [TWLI4] not dropping until Thanksgiving, the tween market could be looking for a young ROMCOM this summer. Given its limited release listing cycle, the potential buzz build up, and the fact that it is trading currently at its all-time low, [ARTGB] could be a good bargain. If it has a couple strong weeks and hits a wider release, [ARTGB] could take off nicely.

MTV Movie Awards is advertising/marketing plain and simple... and as we've seen many times, it has no effect on anything. {nm} secretstalker Jun 03, 08:49
but it does reach the intended demograhics..... and this demographic is very guillible ... {nm} b4bad Jun 03, 09:09
They're not nearly as gullible as most assume. {nm} BionicMoron Jun 03, 09:14
thanks - the info is appreciated! {nm} click999 Jun 03, 08:55
this film may be going to receive bad reviews from key critics, but this film's platform release pattern may require strong critical support {nm} Peterlee Jun 03, 09:22
Has anyone seen it? Does it stand a chance in the BO? {nm} GMov Jun 03, 09:32
Yes and not really, though I liked it more than my peers. {nm} secretstalker Jun 03, 09:46
(It played at Sundance as Homework and I assume the negative reviews convinced them to change the title) {nm} secretstalker Jun 03, 09:46
Anne Thompson may just give a good term to define this film - a 'tweener'. Peterlee Jun 03, 09:51
Thanks. Do you think it gets wider expansion? {nm} GMov Jun 03, 09:55
I also saw it at Sundance. I get why Fox Searchlight bought it, but I think they are going to regret this one. Its audience doesnt really do Moviesnob Jun 03, 10:02
I thiink Fox shouldn't open this film in platform release; they should open this film in more than 250 theaters (like "From Prada to Nada') {nm} Peterlee Jun 03, 10:11
I haven't seen any marketing whatsoever on this and it doesn't have the same appeal as a Napoleon Dynamite {nm} secretstalker Jun 03, 11:02
they have tons of commericals on MTV {nm} RazorHawk Jun 03, 13:34
