"The genre is having some dark days." What a one-data-point mentality.

Posted by: second gary (a.k.a 80181597) on Aug 12, 22:23 in response to Antibody's post THR's take on [LONER]

The genre is completely obsolete.  That fact ought to tower over the failure of an incoherent bloated genre mash-up project steered by an unproven veteran director in their thinking.  Westerns ruled when there were still operating forts in the U.S, southwest (i.e. into the 1930s and 1940s).  Wayne and Hawks carried the genre afterwards, Wayne into the early 1970s, and Eastwood carried the torch with tongue near the cheek until 1991.  Where is the mystery in all of this?  If the Coens have a success with a pedigree remake (as Crowe had a success with a more obscure remake), where's the mystery in that?  It's not rocket science.

THR's take on [LONER] Antibody Aug 12, 21:58

This story though is from 10:29pm. About half an hr after DL and an hr and ahalf before the variety story {nm} Dorfman Aug 12, 22:02

Not sure how much weight to give it given the inaccuracy of the report itself {nm} SparkleMotion Aug 12, 22:03

Is this another ride down? {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Aug 12, 22:04

you assume the news follows the same chronology in which they are posted here? SparkleMotion Aug 12, 22:07

No, but that doesn't mean others who don't pay attention when they trade are as discerning. {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Aug 12, 22:09

It clearly doesn't. THE DL story was 10:07pm the THR story was 10:29pm Variety was after midnight {nm} Dorfman Aug 12, 22:11

whhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee {nm} rustyshackleford Aug 12, 22:04

Clearly this movie is in BIG trouble...if only for the time being! {nm} 1bloke Aug 12, 22:04

Think I might bail on the rollercoaster soon. Gotta go to soccer. {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Aug 12, 22:05

Was that directed at me? 90.17. {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Aug 12, 22:07

Sorry DMac. {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Aug 12, 22:08

Beat ya... Dorfman Aug 12, 22:10

I stepped away for exactly 5 minutes. I caught the flip at 89.48. And I was thinking it was safe to go to bed. Now I'm up until I cover. {nm} PVL Admin Aug 12, 22:36

Ur gonna cover? {nm} Dorfman Aug 12, 23:03

Eventually, but I cannot say when, as that would be a CTA. {nm} PVL Admin Aug 12, 23:11

No. Dorf posted a call to action. {nm} Antibody Aug 12, 22:12

Didn't mean for it to sound like that sorry {nm} Dorfman Aug 12, 22:17

Here we go again. I think DMac is doing this on purpose to generate commission revenues for HSX. {nm} PVL Admin Aug 12, 22:13

ha {nm} Dorfman Aug 12, 22:17

Looks like I picked the wrong night to lay off the Los Pollos Hermanos {nm} PrezBO Aug 12, 22:13

I see only one article saying this isn't true. I see like 20 that say it's getting canned indefinitely. norablindsided Aug 12, 22:19

LAT is sourcing DL. {nm} Antibody Aug 12, 22:20

Yeah, they are. That's most journalism these days. I'll keep an eye on the stock. Once it goes back up. Sell Sell Sell {nm} norablindsided Aug 12, 22:21

That should probably read, "cover cover cover" {nm} PVL Admin Aug 12, 22:23

ahem...sorry "Cover Cover Cover" haha {nm} norablindsided Aug 12, 22:24

Four new articles, all the saying dropped project. Still just copying other articles. Is there no such thing as... norablindsided Aug 12, 22:28

Or original reporting... {nm} PVL Admin Aug 12, 22:30

original reporting? What is this madness? {nm} norablindsided Aug 12, 22:31

"The genre is having some dark days." What a one-data-point mentality. second gary Aug 12, 22:23

I'm sure Disney would gladly make it for TGRIT's budget of $38M. {nm} Antibody Aug 12, 22:28

I thought True Grit was gripping. I am not a spaghetti western graduate, but I was really looking forward to LONER. PVL Admin Aug 12, 22:32

Nothing personal about the "rocket science" lip. :) I saw both TGRIT in December, loved both; but one swallow yada yada yada. But... second gary Aug 12, 22:42

I didn't take it that way. I could see that it was a no pun intended moment. {nm} PVL Admin Aug 12, 23:21

Does anyone know the reliability of Variety? norablindsided Aug 12, 22:45

E! says they contacted Disney but they were not given any comment on it norablindsided Aug 12, 22:51

Variety is one of the largest indusrty trade magazines out there (even prints hard copies still). Very reliable in general. {nm} Apokalips Aug 12, 23:41

Easy there boys, I'm losing 2 million. AgentEvil Aug 13, 11:07
