Movies

Not really. I read through the reviews. There was not one single gushing, raving review. Not one critic LOVED the movie.

There wasn't anyone on there that considered it one of the better movies of the year, or a GREAT movie. The overall tone of the reviews, particularly the ones that are graded positive, are along the lines of grudingly accepting of the movie.

Looking at the top critics, here are some of the first "positive" bites listed:

Roeper: Thanks to an admittedly corny script, it's actually a winner by split decision.

Kennedy: it becomes increasingly easy to forgive its many nicks.

Long: It's a blast, mixes Rocky Xformers, etc. to great, if corny effect.

Covert: It's 10 % lovable hokum, 23 % sentimental drama...

Whitty: While the sappy drama pales next to the terrific Iron Giant...

Lacey: It borrows so much from other films that it might better be titled Reel Steal.

Those are first half dozen reviews listed under "top " critics for this movie. Every one of those reviews are listed as "FRESH".

OKAY....

Ides of March is 82% Fresh. Real Steel is 57% Rotten. Crap wins again. {nm} goodvibe61 Oct 08, 10:02

And will always win. It is the American Way. {nm} Latinman4747 Oct 08, 10:14

It isn't unique to America; the No. 1 films around the world each week, as well as the top international films ever, are not that different xiayun Oct 08, 16:27

How much did you actually think "Ides" would make? Its a political drama which will always are always, nominations > box office {nm} dioneta Oct 08, 10:50

pardon my grammar :) {nm} dioneta Oct 08, 10:51

I'm sorry but that's bull****...57% on RT is just 3% away from having a Fresh rating and that's a perfectly respectable percentage {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Oct 08, 11:05

Hard to decipher sarcasm in print when the sentence begins with "seriously". So, are you serious or not? :()---/ {nm} Rocket Oct 09, 13:07

Movies are entertainment. Larger potential audience/broader appeal/more advertising=more $. {nm} forlorne Oct 08, 13:36
